Students of Islamic University of Malang Change Blood Waste into Feed Quail

Mahasiswa Universitas Islam Malang Ubah Limbah Darah Menjadi Pakan Burung Puyuh

SURYAMALANG.COM, LOWOKWARU -
The blood waste from chicken slaughterhouses (RPA) can pollute the environment because it contains 17 lbs BOD / 1,000 chickens. In fact, the standard BOD per 1,000 chickens only about 0.2 lbs.
Because of this background, three students of the Faculty of Husbandry of Islamic University of Malang (Unisma) made an innovation of RPA waste water utilization as green feeding protein substitution to quail productivity.
"During this time, quail feed is a plant concentrate with 21-22 percent protein content, but concentrate tends to be more expensive," said Nufus Imamil Badriyah at SURYAMALANG.COM, Friday (14/7/2017).
For example, for 60 quails used in the study, it takes 1.5 kg of feed per day. Meanwhile, 1 kg of feed is worth Rp 8,000.
"Means it takes Rp 12,000 to feed 60 quail every day," continued the 7th semester student.
Meanwhile, using the optimum formulation of the research results, ie 38 percent concentrate, 15 percent polar, 35 milled corn, 2 percent flour from chicken blood waste, requires only Rp 9.000 to feed 60 quail workers per day.
"With the feed mixture of blood flour, the consumption of 60 quail feeds to be better is 5,318.75 grams per 3 months, and egg production increased to 2,450.25 grams per 3 months," explained another team member, Faisol Khosim.
In addition, the use of blood waste into flour for quail feed can reduce the content of BOD / 1,000 chickens from 17 lbs to 2 lbs. So, good enough for the environment.
Future plans, research PKM is expected to develop into community service PKM to be applied to local quail breeders.
"We hope this research will not only stop here and be continued by the next generation in order to be utilized by the wider community," he said.

Minister Amran Offers Corn to the Philippines

Menteri Amran Tawarkan Jagung ke Filipina

JAKARTA - The Indonesian government offers corn exports to the Philippines and Malaysia. This export offer was made following the overproduction since last April.

"In the meeting, they expect us to import pineapple and durian. While we offer them corn, "said Minister of Agriculture Amran Sulaiman after receiving a visit of Ambassador of the Philippines to Indonesia Maria Lumen Isleta at the Office of the Ministry of Agriculture, Jakarta, Wednesday (14/06/2017).

According to Amran, this offer will be followed up by the Philippine Government following the coming Secretary of Agricultural Philippines to Indonesia in September. "In September, the Secretary of Agricultural will come. They are also willing to import coconut from North Sulawesi, "said Amran.

Amran said that the trade between Indonesia and the Philippines in the field of agriculture will benefit both sides, considering that there is now a large-capacity roro ships with low fares in Davao, Philippines to Indonesia.

"For the roro ship from Indonesia to bring corn, while from the Philippines bring durian fruit that became their mainstay. So go home in content condition, so the cost is cheap. It will be efficient, "he said.

In addition to the Philippines, said Amran, Indonesia is also likely to export corn to Malaysia. According to him, Indonesia has the potential to export corn to the Philippines as much as 1 million tons and to Malaysia as many as 3 million tons.

"Our chances, the Philippines and Malaysia are 4 million tons. Well if we can fulfill it worth Rp12 trillion to Rp15 trillion. Not bad right ?, "said Minister of Agriculture.

This year, Kementan targets national maize production to reach 17 million tons. In April, there was a large production of 12 million tons. Increased production occurs due to the synergy between the government and the Joint Livestock Feed Company (GPMT) as well as a broad-based planting program.

The increase in production occurs because there are some areas that have increased the planting of maize. "There is one upgraded area up to 50%, but there's the most important thing GPMT has built warehouses everywhere," said Amran.

He explained that the areas that have increased production are Gorontalo, Southeast Sulawesi, Dompu, Bima, Sumbawa, East Java, and Lampung. However, Amran did not mention in detail the increasing amount of maize production in the area.

Amran explained that GMPT with its members has built warehouses and dryers to absorb local corn production and processed into animal feed. "They built their own (warehouse), then accompanied the farmers and already thousands of hectares and in February there are two harvest 2,000 ha in Lampung," said Amran.

According to Amran, if there is an over supply and GPMT is unable to accommodate the national corn production, then it and GPMT agreed to assign Bulog to absorb the production.

Known, the government has set the price of corn at the farm level Rp3.150 per kilogram (kg) with 15% moisture content to be absorbed Bulog. Absorption can be done Bulog when all the corn warehouses owned by private companies are full.
